Butylphenyl Methylpropional (Lilial) update for Great Britain

COSMETICS

The UK government announced last week that contrary to prior guidance, the expected ban of fragrance allergen butylphenyl methylpropional (INCI name “Lilial”) ban will now not come into effect on 1st March 2022 in Great Britain (England, Wales, Scotland). This is due to the fact that the regulatory process to implement a ban is still ongoing in GB.

We share the frustration of many of our customers that have been devoting considerable resources to ensuring compliance with the expected UK-wide deadline. The announcement confirmed that products containing lilial can continue to be placed on the GB market until further notice.

Please note that under the provisions of the Northern Ireland Protocol, the ban will still come into effect in Northern Ireland from 1st March 2022.

The ban for the EU will also come into effect as expected on the same date.
