Lab Technician under the Microscope

We enlisted the services of the Employment Gateway to help fill an Advanced Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship at our laboratory. The recruitment team at the Employment Gateway, which is a partnership between Bury College and key agencies in Bury, is committed to helping employers find candidates and supporting individuals into employment.

Successful candidate 19 year old Dominic Sillett, a former Tottington High School pupil, has now undertaken his role as Laboratory Apprentice here at MSL.

Dominic, who lives in Tottington, has taken on a range of responsibilities which includes adhering to the Laboratory Code of Practice, preparing the lab for testing client samples and testing customer samples in line with laboratory procedures, standard methods and bespoke methods.

Dominic said, “I chose to complete an apprenticeship because I wanted a full-time job and thought that a career as a Laboratory Technician would be a very interesting. The Employment Gateway helped me to improve my CV and prepared me for my interview with Microbiological Solutions. My apprenticeship has helped me improve my teamwork and computer skills and I now have a better understanding of how the industry works.”

We are delighted to have been able to offer Dominic the 24 month apprenticeship. We are committed to giving people work experience opportunities and introducing learners into a career within the Science Industry.
